Indivisible St. Johnsbury Meeting Wed., 3/19, 11 AM - Noon

Hi everyone,

Wow! What an incredible turnout for the protest in front of the Post Office on Saturday in St. Johnsbury. Around 150 of you showed up to make it clear we are determined to retake our democracy from a wannabe King and unelected billionaire. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the article about the protest that was published in the Caledonian-Record.

Our weekly meeting is this Wednesday, March 19 from 11am to 12pm at the Unitarian Universalist church in St. Johnsbury at 47 Cherry St. You can park in their lot on Cherry St. and enter through the door there. Parking is also available on Eastern Ave. Please don’t park in the lot at the lower level of the church—that does not belong to the church.

This week, we will meet in work groups around our interests. Moving forward, we will alternate weeks between meeting as a large group with work groups. This way we hope that people will be able to find a place to be with a smaller group of people to work on the issues that are most important to them.

Those work groups are:

  • National. This is for people who want to work at the national level including elections in other states.

  • State/local This is for those who want to focus their work on issues at the state and local level like going to local selectboard meetings, asking questions at the monthly legislative breakfasts, and tracking state legislation and responses to federal cuts.

  • Protests and events. People who want to coordinate our monthly protests as well as work in mutual aid like our monthly meals to the homeless shelter can attend this workgroup.

  • Communications. Indivisible St. Johnsbury is a rapidly growing group with a number of communications needs and opportunities. People interested in helping map out a communications plan, writing letters to editors, updating and maintaining our website and mailing list as well as social media presence will find a place in this group.

  • Education. This is a group where we can draw from the wisdom and experience of those in the group as well as those who came before us to help make our activism is grounded in sound principles. This group can also bring speakers to our meetings who can help us better understand and respond to what’s happening in our world.

  • Newcomers. This is a possible group that we may want to have this week for new people to Indivisible. We will introduce Indivisible, have a time of sharing, and learn more about what brought you here and your interests.

If you’re not sure what group you want to be in, just try one. If it doesn’t suit you, you can go to another one. We will have signs indicating each group.

Agenda:

  • Brief introduction (5 minutes)

  • Break up into work groups (40 minutes)

  • Come back as a group to share plans for next steps (15 minutes)

Looking forward to seeing you Wednesday.
