Democracy Not Dollars

Authoritarian regimes depend on the support of institutions, like media, business, education, civil service, and more.

Actions to disrupt these institutions, such as refusing to support businesses that promote, fund, and uphold authoritarian actions will create cracks in the foundation of the Trump administration’s power.

DEMOCRACY NOT DOLLARS is an effort to empower Indivisible St. Johnsbury members to take disruptive actions aimed at the business/economic pillar and, ultimately, help create a community that encourages people to change their purchasing habits long term.

What do we mean?

Here are a few examples of how businesses are enabling the Trump administration’s authoritarian tactics.

  • ICE raids in Home Depot parking lots

  • Apple, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and others are funding the demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing to build a gilded ballroom for Trump.

  • Spotify is running recruitment ads for ICE

  • Disney, Target, even Cracker Barrel have folded under the pressure of authoritarianism, doing whatever it takes to appease Trump and diminishing our constitutional first amendment rights to free speech.

What you can do

Let’s show these businesses that we will not allow them to profit from shredding the constitution or illegally targeting the most vulnerable among us.
